Bandits Kill Police Officers, Civilians In Zamfara
Bandits have killed five people including two police officers and three civilians during an attack on Yarkatsinan Laka Community in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara state.
A statement by the Spokesperson of the Zamfara Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the bandits, riding on over 50 motorcycles and carrying sophisticated weapons, invaded the community.
The statement added that Police Strike Unit responded swiftly and engaged the assailants in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralization of eleven (11) bandits, while several others escaped with gunshot injuries.
However, the statement added that two police personnel and three civilians lost their lives during a gun duel.
“Regrettably, during the exchange of fire, two police personnel and three civilians lost their lives. One police officer sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment and is responding positively,” the statement said.
According to DSP Yazid, normalcy has since been restored in the area.
Following the attack, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, paid a condolence visit to the people of the Yarkatsinan Laka Community to commiserate with the families of the deceased and the entire community over the unfortunate incident.
He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the security architecture and restoring lasting peace and normalcy in the area.
The Command urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to enhance effective policing. (Daily trust)
