In another development signifying a close to the race to fill the vacant stool of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, on Monday submitted the names of princes and princess qualified to occupy the revered seat for consideration to the kingmakers.

The Chairman and Head of the Ruling House, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, led other notable leaders and members to present the names to the kingmakers through the Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland, Olorogun Sunny Kuku.

The event was held at the palace of the Awujale in Ijebu-Ode.

According to available information, the kingmakers would pick the preferred candidate and forward the name to the Government through the Ijebu Ode Local Government and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ogun State, for further action.

Recall that no fewer than 90 princes and a princess from the Fusengbuwa ruling house of Ijebu Ode, emerged as contestants for the vacant stool of the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebu land.

The contestants emerged at a nomination meeting held by the ruling house at Bisrod Hall, GRA, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

In a video sighted by The Eagle Online, the meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the ruling house, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi; his deputy, Prince Adedokun Ajidagba; and the Vice Chairman, Prof. Fassy Yusuf.

The Secretary to the Ijebu Ode Local Government, Abiodun Oke, and some other local government officials were present as observers.

Only one female, Princess Oluwakemi Onanuga, showed interest in the stool.

The Awujale stool became vacant in July last year following the demise of the 91-year-old Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for 65 years.

The contestants at the nomination meeting were represented by two of their relatives.

One of the relatives moved the motion for the nomination, while the other seconded it, after which the family registered the nomination as accepted.
