Florida Airport To Be Renamed After U.S. President Trump
A sweeping effort to immortalise United States President Donald Trump in infrastructure and public landmarks has now reached his home base, as Florida lawmakers approved a proposal to rename a major airport located just minutes from his private residence.
According to AFP, Florida’s Republican-controlled legislature has passed a bill to rename Palm Beach International Airport as “President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” state records show.
Governor Ron DeSantis, once a political rival of Trump, is expected to sign the measure into law.
The airport sits in Palm Beach, a coastal enclave known for its sandy beaches and sprawling estates, and is only minutes away from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence. The close proximity has drawn attention to the symbolic significance of renaming the transport hub after the president.
Before the change can take effect, the proposal must still receive approval from the Federal Aviation Administration. If endorsed, it would become the latest public institution to bear Trump’s name.
Trump, a real estate mogul who has plastered his name on buildings around the world, has sought to leave his mark on the country in an unprecedented image and building campaign. The airport proposal forms part of a broader pattern of renaming efforts tied to his administration.
In December, the president’s handpicked board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, an arts complex and memorial to the late president John F. Kennedy in Washington, voted to rename itself the “Trump-Kennedy Center.”
That same month, the State Department added Trump’s name to the United States Institute of Peace, expanding his imprint on long-established federal entities.
US media reports also indicate that Trump pushed to have New York’s Penn Station and Washington’s Dulles International Airport renamed after himself, though those proposals were ultimately rebuffed.
The branding push has extended beyond buildings. The Treasury Department confirmed that drafts have been prepared for a commemorative $1 coin featuring Trump’s image, despite existing laws prohibiting the depiction of a sitting or living president on US currency.
Earlier, a large blue banner bearing Trump’s face was draped across the headquarters of the United States Department of Justice, an agency traditionally regarded as independent from political influence.
Should federal approval be granted, the airport just minutes from Mar-a-Lago would stand as a highly visible addition to the growing list of institutions aligned with the president’s name.
In December 2025, Trump’s name was added to the US Institute of Peace (USIP) building in Washington, after the Department of State rebranded the organisation.
The president’s name was added in large block capitals ahead of a peace agreement signing ceremony between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, to be held at that location.
The Department of State announced the renaming to “Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace” on social media with a post that said it was done “to reflect the greatest dealmaker in our nation’s history” and added “the best is yet to come”.
