‘I saw nothing, did nothing wrong’ – Bill Clinton testifies in Epstein probe
Former United States President Bill Clinton on Friday told U.S. lawmakers investigating the network of late financier Jeffrey Epstein that he had no knowledge of the crimes linked to the disgraced businessman and never witnessed any abuse during their interactions.
Clinton made the statement while testifying in a closed-door deposition before the U.S. House Oversight Committee, which is currently examining the extent of Epstein’s connections with influential figures and how earlier investigations into the case were handled.
According to accounts from the hearing, the former president maintained that his contact with Epstein was limited and largely connected to humanitarian and philanthropic engagements in the early 2000s.
He insisted that at no time did he observe conduct that suggested criminal activity.
“I saw nothing and I did nothing wrong,” Clinton told the panel, reiterating that he had no prior knowledge of the allegations that later emerged against Epstein.
The testimony forms part of a broader congressional effort to revisit the Epstein scandal, years after the financier’s arrest and death in custody sparked widespread public scrutiny and renewed calls for accountability among powerful individuals who had associated with him.
Lawmakers are seeking clarity on Epstein’s network, his relationships with political and business elites, and whether any influence or oversight failures allowed his activities to continue for years without decisive legal consequences.
During the hearing, Clinton acknowledged that he had travelled on Epstein’s private aircraft on several occasions.
However, he said the trips were related to charitable initiatives and meetings connected to global development work.
He stressed that he had severed ties with Epstein long before the financier was charged with federal sex-trafficking offences.
The committee members also questioned Clinton about the nature of his meetings with Epstein and whether any warning signs were raised during that period.
Sources familiar with the proceedings said the former president consistently denied having knowledge of Epstein’s criminal conduct or involvement in any wrongdoing.
Clinton’s appearance before the panel came shortly after former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also testified as part of the ongoing investigation.
She reportedly told lawmakers that she had no involvement in or awareness of Epstein’s activities.
The renewed congressional scrutiny follows sustained pressure from victims’ advocates and the public, who have demanded a fuller accounting of Epstein’s operations and the powerful individuals who may have been connected to him.
Epstein, a wealthy financier known for his connections in political, financial and social circles, was arrested in 2019 on federal charges related to sex trafficking of minors.
His death in a New York jail later that year, while awaiting trial, generated global controversy and prompted further investigations into the case.
Although multiple inquiries have been conducted over the years, the current congressional probe is focused on reviewing documents, testimony and previously undisclosed information that could shed more light on the scope of Epstein’s network.
Clinton’s testimony is expected to form part of a larger body of evidence that lawmakers will assess as they determine whether additional actions, legislative reforms or further investigations are necessary.
Committee officials indicated that more witnesses linked to Epstein’s past dealings may be invited to testify in the coming weeks as the probe continues.
