Troops of the 6th Brigade of the Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have apprehended an individual who was parading himself as an Army recruitment official in Taraba State, attempting to scam aspiring Military recruitment applicants.
BusinessDay reports that the operation followed a visit by the Commander 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, to the Recruitment Center at 114 Battalion Jimilari to assess the ongoing process and ensure its transparency.
The impostor was arrested on Saturday as he tried to collect money from hopeful recruits, promising them guaranteed entry into the Nigerian Army. The swift action of the troops thwarted his plans, protecting the applicants from falling victim to fraud.
During his visit, Brigadier General Uwa, however, addressed the applicants, assuring them of a fair and transparent recruitment process.
”We are committed to maintaining a level playing field for all candidates, our recruitment will be based solely on merit, and we will not tolerate any fraudulent activities,” he declared.
He emphasized that recruitment is voluntary and free, thereby warning candidates not to give money to anyone promising to help them secure employment slots in the recruitment screening.
Speaking on the arrest of the imposter, General Uwa commended the vigilance of the troops, emphasizing that the integrity of the recruitment process is a top priority for the Army.
Meanwhile, a new dawn of peace and security has broken for farming communities in Plateau State, as the Special Military Task Force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), has pledged maximum protection for farmers.
Abdusalami Abubakar, a Major General, and Commander of OPSH made this promise in Jos, at a peace summit organised by the Plateau State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), with the theme “Promoting Inter- Ethnic And Inter-Religious Duologue: Towards Ensuring Food Security In Plateau State”.
The summit brought together youths from five Local Government Areas, including Mangu, Bokkos, Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Jos South which had in recent times been affected by terrorist attacks.
Abubakar emphasised that the task force would not tolerate any attempts to disrupt farming activities, ensuring food security in the State.
Represented by US Abdulsalam, a Colonel, Abubakar also warned against ethno-religious tensions, which threaten social cohesion and food security.
“I would like to send a strong warning to criminals and those planning to obstruct farming activities during this rainy season, which could result in food scarcity in the coming year. Operation Safe Haven will not hesitate to deal decisively, in line with the law, with anyone planning to disrupt farming activities or cause harm”.
Polycarp Auta, Chairman of the Chapel, welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of collective efforts towards peace and food security.
