Welcome, but be good – Trump reveals new US passport design
United States President Donald Trump has unveiled a new commemorative US passport featuring his portrait as part of celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary.
Trump revealed the design on Friday in a post on his Truth Social platform, describing it as “The U.S.A.’s New Passport, which says, ‘Welcome, but be good!’”
The sample passport page shared by the president features an image of Trump seated behind the Resolute Desk, with the text of the original Declaration of Independence in the background and his signature at the bottom. The opposite page displays John Trumbull’s famous painting, *The Declaration of Independence*.
The new design appears to use a rendering based on Trump’s portrait in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, differing from images previously released by the US State Department earlier this year.
The White House later shared the same rendering on its official X account with the caption: “New U.S. Passport to Commemorate America’s 250th.”
When asked whether the image represented the official design of the commemorative passport, the White House referred enquiries to the State Department, which had yet to comment.
The limited-edition passport was first announced in April as part of activities commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States. It was described as featuring custom artwork and enhanced images on the front, back and inside covers.
A State Department official had earlier told CNN that the commemorativ

e passport would become the default version issued by the Washington Passport Agency to applicants renewing their passports in person, while online applications and renewals processed at other locations would continue to receive the existing design.
The current US passport features Percy Moran’s painting of Francis Scott Key on the inside front cover, depicting the morning after the bombardment of Fort McHenry, alongside lines from the US national anthem.
