“We Won’t Beg Govt Again, They’ll Know Our Stand At Election” – Ekiti Commuters

Commuters in Ekiti State have expressed frustration over the poor condition of some roads in the state, warning that they will make their position known through the ballot box if the government fails to address their concerns.

The commuters reportedly voiced their anger while reacting to the deteriorating state of roads, with some saying they were tired of repeatedly appealing to the authorities for intervention.

“We won’t beg government again. They’ll know our stand at the election,” one of the commuters was quoted as saying.

The development has generated reactions online, particularly as the state prepares for its governorship election. A video circulating on social media shows commuters lamenting the difficulties they allegedly face as a result of the condition of the roads.

Road infrastructure has remained a significant issue in Ekiti, with the state government undertaking several road projects in recent years. In November 2025, former Governor Niyi Adebayo commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration for its work on roads and other infrastructure, including the 20-kilometre Ikole-Ara-Isinbode road.

However, the latest complaints suggest that some residents and road users believe more needs to be done, particularly on roads affecting daily transportation and economic activities.

For the commuters, the issue appears to have moved beyond repeated appeals to government. Their warning that they will “show their stand” at the election underscores the growing importance of infrastructure and service delivery as voters assess political leaders.

With the election approaching, the condition of roads could therefore become an important campaign issue, as politicians seek to convince voters that their administrations have delivered—or can deliver—the infrastructure needed to improve movement and economic activity across Ekiti State.
