Another season of Big Brother Naija, dubbed ‘Double Wahala’, has ended with Miracle winning the grand prize of N45 million and other perks.

While it lasted, BBNaija 2018 was a top trend on Twitter, owing to its popularity among Nigerians.

While some viewers criticised the show, others sought support for their favourite housemates.

Unlike the previous editions of the reality show, the just-ended season three will be remembered for the myriad of controversies it generated.

During the course of the show, many Nigerians on social media, particularly Twitter, accused the organisers of double standard, favouritism, and scripting what should be a reality show.

Some viewers even went as far as describing the show as a “scam.”

SCRIPTED?

Many viewers alleged that the reality show was in no way ‘real’.

It was also not uncommon to see viewers allege that their favourite housemates were being cheated by another who was “acting a script of Big Brother”.

Although it has not been proven that the housemates played the game based on a script, many viewers say they won’t tune in for the next season.

FAVOURITISM

No doubt, one of the most controversial housemates this season was Cee-C. She became infamous for picking fights with other housemates, particularly Tobi, her love interest turned foe.

That aside, some of her actions which viewers expected would have earned her strikes (warnings) were allegedly overlooked by Big Brother.

An instance was when she ripped a dress given to her by Payporte, a sponsor of the show.

Despite a statement by the sponsor expressing displeasure at the act, Cee-C did not get a strike. This got tongues wagging.

Cee-C was later penalised — in the last week of the show — when she unleashed a flurry of expletives at Tobi.

Big Brother reacted by dethroning her as head of house.

INCORRECT PERCENTAGE

The summation of votes during eviction nights was another major source of controversy.

After Teddy A and Bambam were evicted, viewers raised concerns that the results may have been tampered with.

A viewer calculated the votes polled by each nominated housemates and realised that they did not add up to 100 percent.

Subsequently, BBNaija responded on Instagram, blaming the error on an “incorrect percentage”.

The Instagram post was later deleted.

Again, when the trio of Khloe, Lolu, and Anto got evicted, some viewers wondered why Lolu who had a “considerable number of votes” was sent home.

Another controversial eviction was that of Rico Swavey.

Some viewers wondered how Rico got evicted when Alex remained in the show despite polling low votes a week prior.

With the wave of controversies that trailed Big Brother Naija this season, the organisers have some work to do to win the hearts of angry viewers before the next season.
