Azeez Fashola, Nigerian street singer better known as Naira Marley, has advised ‘Marlians’, his diehard fans, not to destroy their future.
Marley, 25, has amassed a fanbase comprising of Nigerians, spanning people of divergent socio-economic backgrounds — irrespective of age or literacy levels.
A flurry of opinion articles had elucidated about some Nigerians parading themselves as ‘Marlians’, a coined name for diehard fans of the controversial singer.
This had created a somewhat negative stereotype that portrayed ‘Marlians’ as socio-culturally defiant individuals — especially amid the cyberfraud allegations against Marley.
In a tweet made via his handle on Monday, Marley charged his fans to enjoy their youths but desist from acts that potentially endanger their future.
“As a Marlian u have to enjoy your youth but don’t destroy your future,” the street crooner wrote, with the tweet amassing over 40,000 likes and 10,000 retweets — as of the time of this report.

The singer had also gotten embroiled in a fresh wave of controversy after a Lagos court ordered his arrest over alleged car theft. The case was later dismissed.
Marley had fizzled into the spotlight in 2019 after the country’s anti-graft agency arrested him on account of his controversial 2019 track and social media comments alleged to have upheld cybercrime.
