Alaba Lawson said no drumming at her funeral – Burial committee
Chief Sanya Abiola, the Chairman of the planning committee for the burial of the late Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief Alaba Lawson, has disclosed the deceased had instructed that she does not want drumming at her burial.
Abiola said this on Monday during a press briefing held at the residence of the deceased in Quarry Road, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Abiola said the essence of the briefing was to acquaint the public with the week-long burial plans of the first female National President of the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture slated between December 1 and December 8.
Abiola said, “One of the wishes of the Late Iyalode Alaba is that there should be no drumming during her burial.
“This is, however, not to say that people will not be given what to eat but it would have to be packaged and handed over to the people. That is how it has been arranged and planned.”
He added that the burial committee has approved Friday, December 1 to Wednesday, December 6 as days dedicated to various interest groups, associations, and professional bodies, among others to come around and celebrate the impactful life of the late Iyalode who died on October 28 at 72.
The Christian Wake/Night of Tributes will be held on Thursday, December 7, at Marquee Event Centre, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Abeokuta while the funeral service will be held on Friday, December 8, at Cathedral of St James’ Anglican Church, Idi Ape, Abeokutaa. According to Abiola, both are strictly by invitation.
The interment is also said to be strictly for the family of the deceased while the burial service shall be beamed live by both the television and radio stations of Ogun State government on its various platforms.
