Azeez Fashola, Nigerian street singer better known as Naira Marley, has advised ‘Marlians’, his diehard fans, not to destroy their future.

Marley, 25, has amassed a fanbase comprising of Nigerians, spanning people of divergent socio-economic backgrounds — irrespective of age or literacy levels.

A flurry of opinion articles had elucidated about some Nigerians parading themselves as ‘Marlians’, a coined name for diehard fans of the controversial singer.

This had created a somewhat negative stereotype that portrayed ‘Marlians’ as socio-culturally defiant individuals — especially amid the cyberfraud allegations against Marley.

In a tweet made via his handle on Monday, Marley charged his fans to enjoy their youths but desist from acts that potentially endanger their future.

“As a Marlian u have to enjoy your youth but don’t destroy your future,” the street crooner wrote, with the tweet amassing over 40,000 likes and 10,000 retweets — as of the time of this report.

TheCable Lifestyle earlier reported how fans of the singer resorted to jumping the fence to avoid purchasing tickets at his recently held concert dubbed the ‘Marlian Fest’.

The singer had also gotten embroiled in a fresh wave of controversy after a Lagos court ordered his arrest over alleged car theft. The case was later dismissed.

Marley had fizzled into the spotlight in 2019 after the country’s anti-graft agency arrested him on account of his controversial 2019 track and social media comments alleged to have upheld cybercrime.
