The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum’s (AYCF) President General, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, has voiced his displeasure with the way salaries were disbursed in Kaduna State while Nasir El-Rufai was governor.
Despite El-Rufai’s best efforts, Shettima maintains that Governor Sani is still having trouble paying salaries. Shettima feels El-Rufai need to go up and provide an account of his leadership and the state’s financial management from 2015 to 2023.
Notably, Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna state, recently admitted that his predecessor, Nasir El-rufai, left behind 115 contractual responsibilities, a debt load of N85 billion and $587 million, among other things. Sani said that the payment of employees’ salaries is being affected by these financial obligations.
As per The Sun, Shettima said, “It has reached a point where Sani cannot pay salaries despite the brouhaha by El-Rufai. When you cannot do what is expected of you as a governor, you look at what the problem is, and that is exactly what Sani has done.
“The best that El-Rufai can do is to come and account for his leadership. It is long overdue to explain how he managed all the money due to the state between 2015 and 2023. Even if the governor is not willing to ask El-Rufai for accountability because they are friends, civil society is willing to take up the issue at the appropriate time.
“Nobody is witch hunting or wanting him down; no, he should just come and tell us what he has done with the money because courtesy demands that he explain. So, no big deal about that.”
