We Must Shun Religious and Ethnic Differences — Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has urged residents of Plateau State and Nigerians to shun religious and ethnic differences for the nation’s progress and development.
He appealed while speaking at the funeral service of Nana Lydia Yilwatda on Saturday in Jos. The deceased was the mother of Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
President Tinubu called on Plateau residents and Nigerians in general to rise above religious and ethnic differences.
“I inherited Islam from my family; I didn’t change. But my wife is a pastor and she prays for me at all times. I have never convinced or converted her; I believe in the freedom of religion.
“We are praying and answerable to the same Almighty God, and we will account to Him for our deeds and character. Our love for others is what truly matters; we must learn to live together as one people,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Nentawe Yilwatda, the chief mourner, described his mother as a devoted, loving, and selfless woman who led a life of service to humanity.
“She was strong, loyal, and determined; she lived an exemplary life full of sacrifice and humility. My parents, particularly my mother, lived for others.
“Whatever I gave her, she shared with our neighbours. That is the woman we are celebrating today,” he said.
The APC National Chairman thanked the president, governors, members of the National Assembly, the Plateau State government, and all Nigerians for standing by him and his siblings during their moment of grief.
The late Nana Lydia Yilwatda, aged 83, will be laid to rest in Dungung, Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State.
