Gov Peter Mbah Visits Tinubu at Aso Rock After Defecting to APC
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja — just days after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The meeting, held on Wednesday at the State House, comes shortly after Mbah’s official declaration for the APC — a move that has continued to stir political conversations across the South-East.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Enugu governor shared details of his meeting with President Tinubu in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he said their discussions centred on closer cooperation between Enugu State and the Federal Government.
“Today, I had the honour of meeting with His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the State House, Abuja.
“We discussed ways to strengthen collaboration between Enugu State and the Federal Government to deliver greater prosperity for our people.
“Enugu remains fully committed to playing its part in building a stronger, united, and more prosperous Nigeria,” Mbah wrote.
Governor Mbah, during his recent defection announcement in Enugu, described the move as “a strategic move for visionary partnership that would bring transformative change.”
He explained that joining the APC would help the state align its development vision with the policies of the Federal Government for faster growth.
Mbah was accompanied to the Villa by his predecessor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, along with some federal and state lawmakers. The development marks a major political realignment in Enugu, a state long considered a PDP stronghold.
Recall that earlier this month, Governor Mbah officially joined the APC during a press briefing in Enugu, stating that his decision was driven by “commitment to advancing Enugu’s interests” and ensuring inclusive development under the Tinubu-led administration.
