Mixed Reactions Continue Over Wadada

Mixed reactions continue to trail Governor Abdullahi Sule’s endorsement of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as the preferred governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 elections.

While the Nasarawa State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has thrown its weight behind the Governor’s choice, the Nasarawa State Transparency, Accountability and Good Governance Group (NS-TA&G2) has faulted the process, describing it as “consensus without consent.”

Addressing journalists in Lafia on Tuesday, ALGON Chairman Safiyanu Isa said the association was “unanimously and unequivocally in support of the choice of our hardworking and patriotic leader, His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule,” following wide consultations with constituents.

“We are all agreed that Senator Wadada is the most suitable candidate, not only to lead our great party, the APC, to victory at this material time, but also because he possesses the experience to continue the unprecedented developmental momentum the state has witnessed during nearly eight years of APC leadership,” Safiyanu said.

However, the NS-TA&G2, in a separate press statement delivered by its convener, Lazarus Salaki, warned that the current approach defies democratic norms.

“The present democratic experiment seems to be in defiance of democratic norms and principles, where a few individuals or stakeholders choose to present a flag bearer of a party without recourse to existing guidelines,” Salaki said.

Citing Sections 84 to 88 of the amended 2026 Electoral Act, the group noted that consensus is only valid when all cleared aspirants voluntarily consent in writing to withdraw and endorse a single candidate.
