EFCC to Spend ₦3.2 Billion on Cleaning, Food and Refreshments in 2026 Budget
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has proposed to spend ₦3.2 billion on cleaning and fumigation services, meals, refreshments, and energy-related costs in the 2026 fiscal year.
The expenditure forms part of the presidency section of the 2026 budget presented by Bola Ahmed Tinubu to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 19.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the budget document obtained from the Budget Office of the Federation shows that the EFCC earmarked ₦278.6 million for cleaning and fumigation services, ₦722 million for meals and refreshments, ₦1.02 billion for motor vehicle fuel, and ₦1.2 billion for fuelling generators.
This brings the total projected spending on cleaning, food, and energy-related services to over ₦3.2 billion.
The document further revealed plans to spend ₦170.5 million on drugs and medical supplies, ₦376.5 million on vehicle and transport maintenance, ₦46 million on office furniture, and ₦1.5 billion for maintenance of office buildings and residential quarters.
Additionally, ₦159.8 million was allocated for the maintenance of office and IT equipment.
Public affairs analysts have criticized such spending patterns, describing them as repetitive and wasteful, as they said the allocations reflect a culture of profligacy in public sector budgeting.
They also noted that overhead costs appear to be taking up an increasingly large portion of government expenditure, warning that repeated budget items suggest many expenditures are either unnecessary or poorly implemented.
