Three Herders Killed In Plateau
At least three herders were killed on Saturday, while several others sustained injuries in separate attacks on Kopk, Katako and Sabon Layi communities, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in the state, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed the incidents to journalists in Jos on Sunday.
Babayo said the first attack occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday when a herder identified as Abbas Shehu was allegedly shot dead by gunmen while returning home from the market. He noted that the killing triggered tension in Barkin Ladi town.
According to him, another victim, Muhammad Hassan, was attacked at his residence in Kopk community, while Musa Adamu was also reportedly shot dead by gunmen in Katako community.
It was gathered that the attacks heightened tension in Gangare, Katako and Sabon Layi communities, forcing many residents to flee their homes in panic.
Security personnel have since been deployed to Barkin Ladi town to restore law and order.
In recent days, insecurity has reportedly escalated in Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Bassa local government areas, with several deaths and destruction of property recorded in parts of the state.
As of press time, neither the Police nor Operation Enduring Peace had issued an official statement on the incidents.(Daily trust)
