Ayorinde Olajide, a staff member of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), was attacked while distributing electricity bills on Thursday.

He was said to have been attacked by customers at the Isale Igbeyin area of Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.

Residents of the area, who were aggrieved that the official was distributing the bills during the lockdown period, were said to have pelted Olajide with stones and later descended on him.

He was rescued and taken to the hospital by his supervisor.

Confirming the attack to TheCable, Angela Olanrewaju, IBEDC’s head of branding and communication, said the official was on regular duty when he was attacked.

She added that two of the attackers have been arrested and would be arraigned on Monday.

“He went there because some customers called that they have not seen their bills and that they wanted to pay,” she said.

“He is undergoing treatment at the hospital. We have reported to the police and they have arrested two people. They will appear in court on Monday.” (The Cable)
