Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, expressed his outrage on Monday over the assault on his Commissioner for Women Affairs, Olubunmi Osadahun, by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 1, Akoko South West Local Council Area, Olumide Awolumate.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, Akeredolu described the assault as an affront to the government and emphasized that acts of violence would not be tolerated by his administration.

Recall that a video went viral at the weekend showing the embattled ward chairman, popularly known as ‘Cuba’, engaging in an altercation with the commissioner over the distribution of palliatives.

In the clips which lasted a few seconds, the APC chieftain was seen hitting Osadahun with a chair which caused injuries to her body with swollen face.

Akeredolu vowed to utilise the full force of the law to ensure that the culprit is brought to justice.

“We remind the public that the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) law prohibits all forms of violence against persons and provides maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishments for offenders.

“There are better ways to seek remediation or express concerns where necessary.

“In the distribution of palliatives, we will continue to do our best to reach the most vulnerable in our communities, and we ask for your understanding and support.”

Meanwhile, the assault on the commissioner has sparked widespread condemnation from various quarters within and outside the State.

Many individuals and organisations have called for a thorough investigation into the incident and for appropriate actions to be taken against the perpetrator
