The Federal Government has initiated processes to upgrade the General Hospital Daura, Katsina State, to the status of Federal Medical Centre.

The development may not be unconnected with the recent conversion and renaming of the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, to Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Teaching Hospital.

Officials from the Federal Ministry of Health who were in Daura on Thursday to assess facilities at the General Hospital also inspected a 50-hectare virgin land donated by the Katsina State government to meet part of the requirements for the upgrade of the hospital.

According to leader of the assessment team who is the Director, Human Resource Management, Federal Ministry of Health, Alhaji Hassan Sallau, the assessment was in three areas of infrastructure, equipment and human resources.

He noted that the premises of the General Hospital cannot accommodate the needed structures required to transform it to a Federal Medical Centre.

He said that the Federal Ministry of Health was ready to embark on the project as soon as the required process of handing and taking over of the land was completed.

Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Alhaji Muntari Lawal, who hosted the team on behalf of Governor Aminu Bello Masari, directed the State Ministry of Health to liaise with the Ministry of Lands and Survey to immediately start the demarcation of the land in Daura as well as the process of issuance of Certificate of Occupancy to the Federal Ministry of Health.

Lawal reiterated the government’s commitment towards ensuring the smooth and successful upgrading of the General Hospital to the status of a Federal Medical Centre.
