Enugu North: Labour Party's Ezea defeats Gov. Ugwuanyi %Post Title

The bid by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to retire to the National Assembly as senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after the end of his two-term tenure has been frustrated by Okechukwu Ezea of Labour Party.

Ugwuanyi lost the contest for the Enugu North Senatorial District election held on Saturday 25 February to Ezea, according to result declared by the Returning Officer for the election, Chukwuemeka Ubaka, in Nsukka Local Government Area headquarters early Monday morning.

The LP candidate garnered 104,492 votes to inflict massive defeat on Ugwuanyi who came second with 46,948 votes while the All-Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Ejike Eze, polled 6,816 votes.

The Labour Party candidate won in Nsukka, Igbo-Eze South, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Etiti, Uzo-Uwani and Udenu, the six local governments that made up the senatorial district.

PDP has not lost any election in Enugu since 1999, thus, the defeat of Ugwuanyi was considered significant.

The seat for the senatorial district is currently occupied by Chukwuka Utazi who stepped down for Ugwuanyi before the primary election of PDP last May.

Labour Party had also won the House of Representatives candidate for Nsukka-Igbo-Eze South Constituency.
