Manchester United have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

The Cameroon international, 27, has signed a five-year contract, with the option of a 12-month extension.

He has been chosen as Erik ten Hag’s new No1 after David de Gea’s exit and the pair are reuniting after spending five seasons together at Ajax.

Speaking to the club website, Onana said: “To join United is an incredible honour — I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment.

“Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience.

“This is the start of a new journey for me, with new team-mates and new ambitions to fight for.

“United have a long history of incredible goalkeepers and I will now give everything to create my own legacy in the coming years.

“I am excited by the opportunity to work again with Erik and I can’t wait to play my part in the success I know he is determined to deliver at this great football club.”

Having left the Eredivisie last summer to join Inter, Onana played a starring role in the Italian side’s run to the Champions League final in 2022-23.

De Gea confirmed earlier this month that he had left the Red Devils at the end of his contract.

Upon his departure, the Spaniard said: “It’s been an unforgettable and successful period since I came here.

“I didn’t think from leaving Madrid as a young boy we would achieve what we did together.

“Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings.

“Manchester will always be in my heart, Manchester has shaped me and will never leave me.”

De Gea made 545 appearances for the club, leaving big gloves for Onana to fill.

United’s second major of the summer after Mason Mount, who arrived from Chelsea, will wear the No24 jersey.
