Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti state, has lost out in his bid to be granted bail by the federal high court in Lagos.

On Monday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Fayose on an 11-count charge bordering on abuse of office.

He was accused of misappropriating N30.8 billion while in office but the ex-governor denied this and pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.

Subsequently, Kanu Agabi, Fayose’s counsel, filed a bail application on behalf of his client but Mojisola Olatoregun, the presiding judge, rejected the application and ordered that Fayose should remain in EFCC custody till Wednesday.

The former governor had walked into the head office of the commission in Abuja on Tuesday and has been in custody of the commission since then.

He was flown to Lagos on Sunday and brought to amid heavy security presence.

While in court, TheCable overheard Fayose saying: “This is just like a magistrate’s court. Why did they bring me here?”

Fayose refused to speak with reporters as he was escorted out of the court by EFCC officials and armed policemen.

Many of his supporters trooped to the court but could not gain access. However, Femi Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation, who is an ally of the ex-governor, was in court.

In an interview with TheCable, Fani-Kayode vowed to stand with Fayose in his trying moment.
