Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has refused to rule out the prospect of leaving the Italian club this summer amid interest from Manchester United.

United, who tightened their grip on a top-four berth with Sunday’s 3-0 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford, are poised to prioritise the addition of a new striker ahead of next season and have already earmarked Osimhen as a player of interest. The Napoli ace has been in prolific form this season, plundering 19 goals and grabbing four assists in 23 appearances.

The Nigerian is widely regarded as one of the best and most promising strikers in world football and has gone from strength-to-strength since joining Napoli from French club Lille in July 2020.

His exploits this season have played a key role in Napoli currently finding themselves top of the Serie A table, 15 points clear of Inter Milan in second. Osimhen is clearly enjoying life in Naples, but he has left the door open on the prospect of sealing an exit in the summer.

“When you are doing so well, top clubs around the world are watching, mostly in the top five leagues,” Osimhen told ESPN. “And to be able to attract interest from these top clubs shows that I am doing great and it gives me the motivation to do even more for myself and my team.

“But I am focused on Napoli right now and they have the final say. I just want to help my team to win matches and win trophies. At the end of the season, we will see what is going to happen, but that is not up to me. It is for the club to decide.”

Eighteen of Osimhen’s 19 goals have been scored in Serie A this season, but despite being on course to win the Golden Boot in Italy, he is more focused on collective success.

The striker added: “Being the highest goalscorer is actually not my main priority. The team comes first before my personal ambition.

“If I win it, that’s fine but what I want to do is try to win trophies with my team. As long as the team is winning, it doesn’t matter to me who gets the goals or whether I win top scorer or not.”
