PDP, APC can’t win 2019 presidential poll despite structures - Oby Ezekwesili %Post Title

Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, former Minister of Education, has predicted that neither the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), nor the All Progressives Congress (APC), would win the 2019 Presidential election.

Ezekwesili who stated at the weekend in Asaba during the third anniversary lecture of Trend FM Radio entitled, “The Role of Women in Politics,” insisted that the two parties do not deserve such victory.

She said that PDP which had the structure in 2015 lost the presidential election while the same thing would happen to the APC next year, even with its structure.

Represented by Aisha Yusuf, the Guest Speaker, said that the time around people would vote with courage, not out of fear, adding that the era when women are given the position of women leader because they did not have structure was over.

While imploring women to be actively involved in politics and activism in the country and refused to be labeled and discouraged by names like prostitutes and others, she said women should try to change the rules as she said politics is not for the weak.

Ezekwesili who posited that it was time women took over the mantle of leadership in Nigeria, said women should target 100 percent affirmation instead of the 35 being canvassed if only they can change their mentality.

“Citizens are begging for good governance because bad governance is affecting all of us, as an injustice to one is an injustice to all. We have played politics of tribe, religion and gender and it has not worked for us, I think it is time to demand for a woman leader,” she stated.

Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, Chairman of the occasion, speaking on the topic, said women are their own problems, revealing that despite the population of women and having woman Presidential aspirant, they still vote for men.

Uduaghan said women are having challenges in playing politics because women destroy themselves to men while men use the opportunities to sideline women when it comes to elective positions and appointments.

The former Delta State governor, however, encouraged women not to be boxed away despite the challenges preventing them from participating in politics while also emphasising the importance of private investors.

Patrick Ukah, Delta State Commissioner for Information, lauded the radio station for making its mark within the short time of its establishment, assuring it of state government’s continued partnership.

Dr. Joe Odumakin, a Human Rights Activist, said women should brace up to the challenges of raising the female child the same way with the male child as she said it would help develop a strong mentality for competition in the female child.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Trend FM, Agatha Amata, appreciated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his support since the establishment of the station.

She however called for continued partnership with the state government.
