The new monarch of Britain, King Charles, has described the death of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II as a moment of the greatest sadness for himself and all the British royals.

“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” a statement from Buckingham Palace read in part. Balmoral Castle was her estate in the Scottish Highlands.

During her last moments, it was gathered that her son and heir to the throne, King Charles as well as his siblings, relatives and other senior royals travelled to Balmoral to be at the monarch’s side.

Reacting to the death of his mother, the recently crown king via an official statement posted on the verified Instagram account of the royal family said, “A statement from His Majesty The King: The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.

“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”
