Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has described the State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a carcass and wondered why some Rivers people are still in the party.
Besides, the Governor lampooned his predecessor, former Governor Rotimi Amaechi for the failure of his eight-year reign in the state and warned the people not to vote for his candidate for the 2023 governorship election on the platform of the APC in the state.
Wike who remarked on Tuesday during the flag-off of the construction of Mgbuodohia road, in the Obio/ Akpo Local Government Area of Rivers State, stated that the road when completed would improve productive work in the area, increase rent and economic activities will thrive and urged the people to vote for his successor.
“I wish to say to everybody that whatever political party you belong to appreciate and compare what Reumuorumenyi used to be to what it is now. The previous administration under Rotimi Amaechi, who I heard is moving around with campaigning for him as Governor. I am happy that one of our leaders from Ikwerre, Oraegbule is one of the strong supporters of Rotimi Amaechi, he is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). His father was one of the greatest supporters of Amaechi, He did everything any Ikwerre man could do to give him support. Rumuorumenyi road was awarded and Amaechi didn’t do that road and left office. Was that road not completed?
He added, “Politics is about what you get for your people. The PDP has brought development to Rumuorumenyi. You can tell them that the Governor promised to develop our area and he has delivered, he completed Rumuorumenyi road, naval base road, Mghoshimiri road and if you give us the support we will build the bridge across Agip.
“When Amaechi brings in his business partner and tells you to vote for him, ask him why you should vote for him. Some of you who are still thinking if you will support PDP what are you thinking about? APC is a carcass. Rivers people who are still in APC, what are you doing there? You have been there for eight years without doing a single thing for your people.
“Amaechi said that he is a proper Ikwerre man, the fact that you are born in Ikwerre land doesn’t make you a proper Ikwerre man.”
On the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Wike said, “I knew that if Obasanjo says anything he would indict us because he was the president under the PDP, and he worked with our presidential candidate for eight years.
Wike added, “The campaign by the presidential campaign council is that during the eight years, our presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar worked very well, and then his principal, Obasanjo, said otherwise, I told myself that something is fundamentally wrong.
“Instead of asking to know what is fundamentally wrong, they are busy abusing me, I told people that those who love PDP are those who are worried about what is happening in the party and not those who move around every day.
“Those of us who joined the party in 1998, contributed to the survival of this party till now, and that is why we shout when we see the danger. When we shout, people are angry. When you see young boys who just joined the party because they don’t see what they are looking for in the other party, they return to become spokespersons of the party.
“A man joined our party two months ago and he became the spokesman of our presidential candidate. What does he know about our party? Abusing people will not change anything, it will spoil things.
