In a recent interview with Arise TV, former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi declared that he would never back down from a challenge to speak the truth, even if it meant facing death. He asserted that what separates him from most Nigerian politicians is his honesty, no matter who he may offend.
Rotimi Amaechi went on to say in the interview that one of his coworkers had told him that honesty is both his best and worst quality. He admitted that he had no idea why he always tells the truth, but it has always been that way in his memory.
“I say it like it is and I do it unknowingly; people just think I say things because I want to hurt them,” he said, contrasting himself with most Nigerian elites. No, that’s not how God raised me, and I have questioned God about why he did that. Even if you put a gun to my head, I’ll tell you the truth. I have to do that in politics, at home, with my spouse, and with my kids.
