The Leader of Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has explained why the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation is supporting the presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, and not one of their own and flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Adebanjo made the groups position known in a series of tweets on his Twitter handle following concerns on the issue.
Tinubu was a member of Afenifere before he parted ways with the leadership.
Explaining the rationale for the decision to support a South Easterner instead of a South Westerner, Adebanjo said the fear is that Tinubu will continue President Muhammadu Buhari’s incompetent leadership.
He tweeted: “Ahmed Tinubu will only give continuity to Buhari’s incompetence.
“We know Peter Obi very well, that is why we endorse him.
“He will not disappoint Nigerians, let us put tribal difference apart and vote right leaders.”
